Update: Ashworth leading after round 2 at Bell Open Championship

On Sunday, May 24, the 2015 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the second round of the PKBGT BELL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS at Country Club of Salisbury. Salisbury, home of the Catawba College women’s golf team, is a tricky Donald Ross layout for this 54-hole championship. The event features a field 51 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 425 members in 2014 and over 350 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf. The event, ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings, is the third championship event of the 2015 PKBGT season.

After 36 holes, Catherine Ashworth (Fuquay-Varina, NC 2015) is leading the field by four following a 1-under par 70 in round two.  Ashworth, who will be playing her college golf at East Carolina University this Fall, has a two day total of 142 and sits at even par.   4 shots back is Virginia Tech signee Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) who has fired back to back 73’s.  First round leader Jensen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2019) sits 6 shots back at 148.  3 players lurk 8 shots back and will look for a low numbers early to fight for the title including Aneka Seumanutafa (Frederick, MD 2019), Samantha Vodry (Mooresville, NC 2016) and Hailey Freedman (Chapel Hill, NC 2018).

Round 3 tee times begin at 8:00 AM with the leaders teeing off at 10:40 AM.  Sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 80s are in the forecast for Monday. Looks like a beautiful day for the final round of the Open Championship!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
