On Saturday, April 5, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Wolfpack Classic at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State. Lonnie Poole, home to the North Carolina State University men’s and women’s golf teams is a demanding course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 80 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division, after round one, Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) has a commanding lead at four under par with a score of 68. Anna Redding (Concord, NC 2015) and Maddy Mcdanel (Aliquippa, PA 2016) are tied for second at two over par each with score of 74. Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) ranked 5th is in fourth place at three over par with a score of 75.
In the Futures Division, after round one, Mackenzie Battle (Aberdeen, NC 2018) and Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, NC 2017) are tied for first at five over par each with scores of 77. Not far behind the leaders is Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) at six over par with a score of 78.
Weather for Sunday’s round is beautiful with temperatures in the mid 60s and sunny skies. It should be a great day for lots of birdies and low scores! Also, this weekend’s event is a qualifier for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship in San Diego, CA. The champion of each age group (11-12 year olds in the Futures Division, 13-14 year olds in the Bell Division, and 15-17 year olds in the Bell Division) will win the exemption.
