On Sunday, March 23, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Rocket Tour PLAYERS at Creekside Course at Pebble Creek Club. Rainy weather was the story of the today but it did not deter solid scoring from the field. The event featured a field of 40 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division, Anne Taylor Hough (2015, Spartanburg, SC), who has verbally committed to play collegiate golf at Virginia Tech, cruised to a 6-shot victory in claiming her first PKBGT Championship. Hough started strong, making eagle on her first hole of the day, #10, by holing out from the fairway. Her strong play continued, shooting even par on her first 9 and then capped her victory on her final hole to shoot 73-73-146. Furman commit Natalie Srinivasan (2016, Spartanburg, SC) took second place in the Bell Division, shooting solid rounds of 74 and 78 to finish at 152. A three-way tie for third was settled on a scorecard play-off with Katie Turk (2015, Blacksburg, VA) coming out on top, with Savanah Goodman (2016, Easley, SC) & Jacqueline Twitty (2015, Chapin, SC) taking 4th and 5th respectively.
In the Futures Division, Katharina Floyd (2020, Chapel Hill, NC) tied for the low round of the day with a 78 to claim a two -shot lead. Katharina shot 81-78-159 to claim her 2nd title of the year and her first PKBGT Championship. Alyssa Montgomery (2019, Knoxville, TN) also shot a 78 on day 2 and finished tied for 2nd at 83-78-161. PKBGT newcomer Sarah Fite (2017, Russelville, KY) tied with Montgomery at two-shots back and took third. Woo Wade (2019, Dunwoody, GA) finished 4th at 163, 4 shots off the pace.
With their victory’s, Hough & Floyd both received class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up and third place finishes, Srinivasan, Turk, Montgomery, and Fite all received class B exemptions into the Tournament of Champions in September.
PKBGT returns to action next week with the Boar’s Head Inn Classic @ Birdwood Golf Course at UVA. The event brings together players from Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
