Recap: Shoomee wins TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

On Wednesday, August 13, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club. Pine Needles, host the US Women’s Open in 1996, 2001, and 2007, is among the most well know golf courses in the southern US and a ideal setting for the final open major championship of the PKB Tour regular season. The event features a field 65 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division (Prep Series), Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) shot one over par with a score of 72 to place first with a three-day total of 211. Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) shot two over par with a score of 73 to place second with a three-day total of 213 and Sydney Mills (Severna Park, MD 2016) shot three over par with a score of 74 to place third with a three-day total of 217.

In the Futures Division, Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) shot two over par with a score of 73 to place first with a three-day total of 223. Kendall Turner (Chesapeake, VA 2019) shot two over par with a score of 73 to place second with a three-day total of 225 and Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) shot six over par with a score of 77 to place third with a three-day total of 227.

With their victories, Shoomee and Floyd received a class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. With their runner-up and third place finishes, Spicer, Mills, Turner, and Domenech all received class B exemptions into the Tournament of Champions. PKBGT returns to on action on Saturday-Sunday, September 20-21 with the TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS @ Dolphin Head GC in Hilton Head Island, SC.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
