On Saturday, May 24, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the PKBGT BELL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury and the PKBGT FUTURES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Sapona Ridge Country Club. Both courses are tricky, but regardless, are great venues for the third championship event of the season. The Bell event features a field of 59 players and the Futures event features of field of 30 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division, after round one, Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) is leading the field by one stroke at even par with a score of 71. Not far behind Bose is Payton Schanen (Milton, GA 2015) at one over par with a score of 72. There is a three-way tie for third between Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016), Adeena Shears (Elizabeth, WV 2016), and Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) who all shot two over par each with scores of 73.
In the Futures Division, after round one, Katharina Floyd (Chapel Hill, NC 2020) is leading the field by four strokes at four over par with a score of 75. Not far behind Floyd is Michelle Cabotaje (Fort Washington, MD 2018) at eight over par with a score of 79. There is a three-way tie for third between
Keri Kenkel (Charlotte, NC 2017), Krystal Sung (Derwood, MD 2016), and Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019) who all shot nine over par each with scores of 80.
Weather for Sunday’s round looks beautiful with sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70s and low 80s. Looks like a beautiful forecast for the final round of the PKBGT FUTURE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP @ Sapona Ridge CC and the second round of the PKBGT BELL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP @ CC of Salisbury!
