On Saturday-Sunday, April 6-7, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the MASTERS at Salem Glen Golf & Country Club. Salem Glen Golf & Country Club is in great shape for the second major tournament of the 2013 season. According to the course, its greens are firm and fast but not too tricky for the skilled PKB field. The event features a field of 83 players. The field is quite strong with 10 event champions from the 2013 season, 12 of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, 17 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, and the defending 2012 PKBGT MASTERS champion.
The Bell Division field features 59 golfers, highlighted by 12 of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Kelsey Badmaev (Blythewood, SC 2013) ranked 223rd, Amanda Hollandsworth (Floyd, VA 2014) ranked 250th, Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014) ranked 272nd, Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) ranked 293rd, Alaina Yeatts (Durham, NC 2014) ranked 338th, Jillian Hollis (Rocky River, OH 2015) ranked 361st, Ashlii Thompson (Browns Summit, NC 2013) ranked 380th, Hannah Craver (Winston-Salem, NC 2013) ranked 460th, Annika Bovender (Mt. Pleasant, SC 2015) ranked 491st, and Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) ranked 500th. 17 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Jennifer Chang (Cary, NC 2018) ranked 10th, Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) ranked 57th, Delaney Shah (North Potomac, MD 2016) ranked 58th, Kathleen Sumner (Charleston, SC 2017) ranked 60th, and Megan Munroe (Raeford, NC 2016) ranked 95th. There are six event champions from the 2013 season, including: Rinko Mitsunaga (Roswell, GA 2015), winner of the Bulldog Classic @ University of Georgia GC; Juliana Sebastian (Columbia, SC 2014), winner of the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University; Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017), winner of the NC University Classic @ The Finely GC at UNC-Chapel Hill; Allison Cooper (Harrisburg, PA 2015), winner of the Richmond Classic @ Providence GC; and Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018), Futures Division winner of the Chanticleer Classic @ The Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University and the PKBGT PLAYERS @ Chateau Elan Resort (Chateau Course), who will be playing her first event as a Bell Division player. Finally, Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013), 2012 Order of Merit champion and winner of the 2012 PKBGT MASTERS @ Salem Glen Golf & Country Club, will be defending her title.
The Futures Division field features 24 golfers, highlighted by 10 of the top 30 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Maria Cassas (Cary, NC 2015) in 5th position, Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) in 6th position, Katie Pritchett (Dry Fork, VA 2016) in 13th position, Mckenzie Hedrick (Bishop, GA 2015) in 15th position, Diana Cristina Domenech (Richmond, VA 2018) and Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) tied in 21st position, and Bailey Jones (Davidson, NC 2014) in 30th position. There are four event champions from the 2013 season, including: Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017), winner of the Bulldog Classic @ University of Georgia GC and the NC University Classic @ The Finely GC at UNC-Chapel Hill; Carley Cox (China Grove, NC 2015), winner of the SC University Classic @ The Walker Course at Clemson University; and Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017), winner of the Palmetto Classic @ Cobblestone Park GC at USC-Columbia.
The MASTERS @ Salem Glen Golf & Country Club brings together the players from players from Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, West Virginia, and even Ontario, Canada. It should be an exciting & challenging event! Who will be golden?
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf. The PKBGT is the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.
