Update: Hough, Lovorn lead at Palmetto Classic

On Saturday, March 16, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Palmetto Classic at Cobblestone Park Golf Club at the University of South Carolina. Cobblestone Park Golf Club, home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks golf teams, is a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 52 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.

The Bell Division field features 41 golfers, highlighted by eight of the top 600 players nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard. After round one, Anne Taylor Hough (Spartanburg, SC 2015) and Riley Lovorn (Anderson, SC 2014) are tied for first and leading the field by two strokes. Both girls are at five over par with a score of 76. There is a three-way tie for third between Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015), Emily Stinson (Charlotte, NC 2013), and Carly Burkhardt (Greenville, SC 2016) at seven over par with a score of 78. There is a two-way tie for sixth between Natalie Srinivasan (Spartanburg, SC 2016) and Kylie Nizolek (Bluffton, SC 2014) at eight over par with a score of 78.

The Futures Division field features 11 golfers, highlighted by four of the top 40 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit list. After round one, Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) is leading the field by five strokes at eight over par with a score of 79. In her first PKB event, Jensen Castle (West Columbia, SC 2019) is in second at 13 over par with a score of 84. Only a stroke behind Castle is Katie Pritchett (Dry Fork, VA 2016) who is in third at 14 over par with a score of 85.

Weather on Sunday looks sunny with temperatures in the upper 70s. It should be perfect weather for shooting low scores!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
