Preview: NC University Classic at UNC Chapel Hill

On Saturday-Sunday, March 9-10, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour plays the NC University Classic at the Finley Golf Course at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. The Finley Golf Course, home of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Tar Heels golf teams, is a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 90 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 330 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013. The event is ranked by the GolfWeek/Titliest national rankings and is the largest classic tournament of the 2013 season.

The Bell Division field features 60 golfers, highlighted by 11 of the top 400 players nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, including: Bryana Nguyen (Columbia, MD 2014) ranked 86th, defending champion of the 2012 NC University Classic Jessica Porvasnik (Hinckley, OH 2013) ranked 123rd, Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) ranked 114th, Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014) ranked 257th, Madison Moosa (Charlotte, NC 2017) ranked 260th, Nikolette Schroeder (Avon Lake, OH 2015) ranked 289th, Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) ranked 302nd, Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) ranked 315th, Allyson Markiewicz (Charlotte, NC 2013) ranked 372nd, Alaina Yeatts (Durham, NC 2014) ranked 380th, and Jillian Hollis (Rocky River, OH 2015) ranked 389th.

The Futures Division field features 30 golfers, highlighted by five of the top 40 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists, including: Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) in 12th position, Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) in 17th position, Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) in 30th position, Amanda Yannoni (Cary, NC 2015) in 32nd position, and last weeks champion Carley Cox (China Grove, NC 2015) in 36th position.

The PKBGT would like welcome Skai Guity (Virginia Beach, VA 2019), Makenna Hammer (Clayton, NC 2015), Adeena Shears (Elizabeth, WV 2016), and Molly Skapik (Miamisburg, OH 2014) who will be playing their first PKB event.

The NC University Classic at Finley Golf Course at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill brings together the top players from , bringing together players from Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and even Ontario, Canada. It should be an exciting & challenging event!

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
