Update: Brooks leads at Cape Fear Classic

On Saturday, February 9, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Cape Fear Classic @ River Landing (River Course). River Landing, host of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Seahawk Classic, is a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event features a field of 22 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.

The Bell Division field features 15 golfers, highlighted by five of the top 900 players nationally. After round one, Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) is leading the field at two under par with a score of 70. Ashley Sloup (Southport, NC 2014) is in second at six over par with a score of 78 and Kayla Ward (Raleigh, NC 2018) is in third at 11 over par with a score of 83.

The Futures Division field features 7 golfers, highlighted by two of the top 40 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round 1, Brook Vann (Charlotte, NC 2014) is leading the field at 18 over par with a score of 90. Not far behind Vann is Taylor Cozart (Taylorsville, NC 2016) at 20 over par with a score of 92. Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) is in third at 28 over par with a score of 100.

Weather on Sunday looks sunny with temperatures in the mid 50s. It should be an exciting end to the third tournament of the 2013 PKB season.
