Recap: Brooks Wins Cape Fear Classic

On Sunday, Februry 10, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the Cape Fear Classic @ River Landing (River Course). River Landing, host of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Seahawk Classic, proved a challenging course for this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 45 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members in 2012, 137 alumni in the collegiate ranks and 29 National Letter of Intent signees for fall 2013.

In the Bell Division, Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) carded one over par with a score of 73 to place first with 70 + 73 = 143. Ashley Sloup (Southport, NC 2014) carded three over par with a score of 75 to place second with 78 + 75 = 153. Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) carded six over par with a score of 78 to place third with 86 + 78 = 164.

In the Futures Division, Brook Vann (Charlotte, NC 2014) carded 15 over par with a score of 87 to place first with 90 + 87 = 177. Taylor Cozart (Taylorsville, NC 2016) carded 24 over par with a score of 96 to place second with 92 + 96= 188. Katie Pritchett (Dry Fork, VA 2016) carded 18 over par with a score of 90 to place third with 101 + 90 = 191.

PKBGT returns next weekend on Saturday-Sunday, February 16-17 with the PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP @ Chateau Elan Resort (Chateau Course) in Braselton, GA. This is the first major tournament of the 2013 season, bringing together players from across Georgia, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and even Ontario, Canada.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers low cost, nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
