Update: Wade wins Futures, Hollis leading OPEN

On Sunday, May 26, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the second round of the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury. Country Club of Salisbury, a historic Donald Ross course, is a great venue for the third major tournament of the 2013 season. There was a record-breaking 118 entries received for the event, but the field was cut to 96 players hailing from nine states. The field is quite strong with 11 event champions from the 2013 season, 16 of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, 28 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, and the defending 2012 PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Bell Division champion.

The Futures Division, Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019) carded nine over par with a score of 80 to place first with 76 + 80 = 156. Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) carded six over par with a score of 77 to place second with 80 + 77 = 157. Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) and Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) tied for third with two-day totals of 159 each. With their top-three finishes, Wade, Cheong, McCann and Carson all received exemptions into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions, which is being held at Moss Creek Country Club (North Course) in Hilton Head Island, SC in September.

In the Bell Division after round two, Jillian Hollis (Rocky River, OH 2015) is leading the field at one over par with a score of 73 + 70 = 143. Not far behind Hollis is Payton Schanen (Kennesaw, GA 2015) in second place at five over par with a score of 74 + 73 = 147. There is a four-way tie for third place between Kelsey Badmaev (Blythewood, SC 2013), Sarah Bertram (Concord, NC 2013), Allyson Geer (Brighton, MI 2017), and Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017) who each have a two-day total of 150. PKBGT would also like to congratulate to Catherine Ashworth (Fuquay-Varina, NC 2015) on her hole-in-one on hole #14, a 130 yard par 3. This is Ashworth’s second hole-in-one in her career.

Weather for Monday looks beautiful with sunny skies with temperatures in the high 70s. It should be an exciting conclusion to the three-day tournament in the Bell Division. Who will be golden? Follow the action live at the scoreboard button below.
