On Saturday, May 25, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at Country Club of Salisbury. Country Club of Salisbury, a historic Donald Ross course, is a great venue for the third major tournament of the 2013 season. There was a record-breaking 118 entries received for the event, but the field was cut to 96 players hailing from nine states. The field is quite strong with 11 event champions from the 2013 season, 16 of the top 500 players ranked nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard, 28 players ranked inside the top 100 for their class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, and the defending 2012 PKBGT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Bell Division champion.
In the Bell Division after round one, Allison Cooper (Harrisburg, PA 2015) and Jillian Hollis (Rocky River, OH 2015) are leading the field at two over par with scores of 73. Not far behind the leaders are Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014), Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013), Anna Redding (Concord, NC 2015), and Payton Schanen (Kennesaw, GA 2015) in a four-way tie for third place at three over par with scores of 74. There are eight other players within three strokes of the leader.
In the Futures Division after round one, Woo Wade (Dunwoody, GA 2019) is leading the field at five over par with a score of 76. Not far behind Wade is Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) in second place at six over par with a score of 77. Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) and Aubrey Patti (Winston-Salem, NC 2015) are tied for third place at seven over par with scores of 78. PKBGT would also like to congratulate to McCann on her hole-in-one on hole #14, a 113 yard par 3. This is McCann’s first hole-in-one in her career.
Weather for Sunday looks beautiful with sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 70s. Looks like great weather for lots of birdies and low scores. It should still be an exciting conclusion to the two-day tournament in the Futures Division and an intense “moving day” second round in the Bell Division for this three-day tournament.
