On Sunday, May 5, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour attempted to play the second round of the Wildcat Classic at University Club of Kentucky (Wildcat Course). Due to unrelenting rain, the second round was ultimately canceled after 9-holes and the top five finishers were based on their 27-holes. The Wildcat Course, home of the University of Kentucky Wildcats men’s and women’s golf teams, is one the two courses the college plays and proved a tricky course for round one of this two-day tournament. The event featured a field of 10 players. Despite the tournament being a small, the field is strong with seven players ranked inside the top 50 for their state by Junior Golf Scoreboard.
In the Bell Division, Adeena Shears (Elizabeth, WV 2016) carded four over with a score of 40 to place first with 78 + 40 = 118. Shears received an exemption into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions, which is being held at Moss Creek Country Club (North Course) in Hilton Head Island, SC in September. Molly Skapik (Miamisburg, OH 2014) carded six over with a score of 42 to place second with 79 + 42 = 121 and Ali Nageotte (Westlake, OH 2014) carded eight over with a score of 44 to place third with 81 + 44 = 125.
PKBGT returns to action next weekend on Saturday-Sunday, May 11-12 with the Carolina’s Classic @ Carolina Trace CC (Lake Course) in Sanford, NC. Carolina Trace CC (Lake Course) is North Carolina’s 2013 US Women’s Open Qualifier site. The tournament brings together players from Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia and should be a great tournament.
