On Saturday, April 13, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour held the first round of the Wolfpack Classic at Lonnie Poole Golf Course at North Carolina State University. Lonnie Poole Golf Course, home of the NC State University Wolfpack men’s and women’s golf teams, proved a challenging course for day one. The event features a field of 73 players from 6 states.
In the Bell Division, five players are tied for the lead at 5-over 77. Sarina Sonoda (Florence, SC 2016), Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014), Emilia Migliaccio (Cary, NC 2017), Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) and Catherine Ashworth (Fuquay-Varina, NC 2015) share the lead. 17 players in the Bell Division sit within 4 shots of the lead, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion on Sunday.
In the Futures Division, the battle for the title is equally as tight. Riley Thomas (Cary, NC 2017) and Madison Branum (Lexington, SC 2018) sit atop the leaderboard at 8-over par 80. Renee Janis (Davidson, NC 2016) sits one stroke back and Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) is at 82. 4 additional players sit within 4 shots of the lead.
Weather on Sunday looks beautiful with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s. Should be perfect weather for the field to battle for the three exemptions for the Callaway Junior World Qualifier in San Diego, CA. Follow the action live at the scoreboard button below.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
