On Sunday, May 12, the <\/span><\/i>Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour<\/span><\/i><\/a> played the final round of the 2019 PKBGT DuPont Girls Classic<\/a> at DuPont Country Club<\/a> in Wilmington, Delaware. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

For a brief moment, it appeared that Mother Nature would work in the PKBGT\u2019s favor for Sunday morning\u2019s final round of the 2019 PKBGT DuPont Girls Classic. A window from 7 a.m. until around noon left a promising hope that the Futures National division finish their final round and the Bell National division complete their final nine holes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rainy conditions were present early and often as dedicated mothers celebrated the day in their honor by supporting their daughter on a quest to claim a PKBGT glass bowl trophy. As 7 a.m. rolled around, with umbrellas locked in their place on participants pushcarts, the first group of Futures National players strutted to the tee box through a steady wave of rain. <\/span><\/p>\n

Waves of gusty winds paired with consistent rainfall challenged the girls\u2019 perseverance and ability to battle the elements. All 43 of the tournament\u2019s field made it off the starting tee at the tenth hole on Sunday morning. <\/span><\/p>\n

As the round progressed, so did the dreary weather conditions which slowly compiled throughout the golf course. Nonetheless, the first groups from the Futures National field made the turn, heading into the final nine holes of their tournament. <\/span><\/p>\n

With the final group in the division on the 18th putting green, the course was deemed unplayable and the tournament was ended after 27 holes. All remaining Bell National groups on the course returned to the scoring area to confirm their 27 hole scores and with that, the 2019 PKBGT DuPont Girls Classic came to a close. <\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of the tournament, let\u2019s take a look at how the leaderboard panned out!<\/span><\/p>\n

Bell National<\/b><\/h2>\n

Taking home the glass bowl trophy with a final score of 70, 36 = 106 (-2) was <\/span>Phoebe Brinker <\/b>(Wilmington, DE 2020). The hometown champion ripped off five birdies in her first round of play on the way to a two-under-par finish. She followed that performance with two more birdies in her final nine holes. <\/span><\/p>\n

Riding a one-under-par 35 in her final nine holes of play, <\/span>Angelina Tolentino <\/b>(Mount Laurel, NJ 2024) finished the tournament runner-up. Tolentino closed out her first round with three birdies on the back nine and followed that with another birdie in a clean scorecard during the last nine holes. She finished the weekend with a total score of 74, 35 = 109 (+1). <\/span><\/p>\n

In third place with a two-day total score of 73, 37 = 110 (+2), <\/span>Isabel Bae <\/b>(Bristow, VA 2021) made eight pars in a row to close out her weekend in Wilmington. Bae\u2019s first round was capped off by a two-under-par 34 on the back nine. She sank two birdies in three holes on the way to a Top Five finish1 <\/span><\/p>\n

Michelle Cox <\/b>(Allentown, PA 2021) finished the tournament in fourth place after posting a two-day total score of 74, 38 = 112 (+4). Cox jumped out to a strong start, finishing her first-round front nine at even-par. She made two birdies throughout the weekend en route to her first Top Five finish of the 2019 campaign. <\/span><\/p>\n

Rounding out the Top Five in the 29 player Bell National field, <\/span>Samantha Yao <\/b>(Berwyn, PA 2019) departed Delaware with a two-day total score of 78, 35 = 113 (+5). Yao finished her tournament strong with a one-under-par 35 in her final nine holes of play. She added two birdies to her scorecard in the first round of play. <\/span><\/p>\n

Futures National <\/b><\/h2>\n

Leading the way in the 14 player Futures National field, <\/span>Helen Yeung <\/b>(Clarksville, MD 2024) brought home the championship trophy at DuPont Country Club. Yeung posted a two-day total score of 74, 41 = 115 (+7) on the weekend. She made two birdies in her first round on Saturday and tacked on another in Sunday\u2019s final nine. <\/span><\/p>\n

In a two-way tie for second place, <\/span>Grace Smith <\/b>(Wallingford, PA 2022) and <\/span>Emily Wang <\/b>(Mclean, VA 2024) each finished with scores of 123 (+15) on the weekend. Smith finished Saturday\u2019s first round with an 80 and followed that with a 43 in her final nine holes of play. Wang left Saturday\u2019s first round after posting a 79 and shot a 44 on Sunday morning. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah Lydic <\/b>(Ocean View, DE 2024) landed a fourth-place finish after posting a weekend score of 81, 43 = 124 (+16). Lydic found her best success on the front nine of her opening round, making the turn at one-over-par. She made two birdies at the tournament hosted in her home state of Delaware. <\/span><\/p>\n

Closing out the Top Finishers at the 2019 PKBGT DuPont Girls Classic, in a three-way tie for fifth place was <\/span>Amelia Cho <\/b>(Ashburn, VA 2024), <\/span>Sawyer Brockstedt <\/b>(Rehoboth Beach, DE 2025) and <\/span>Emerson Purcell <\/b>(New Albany, OH 2024). All three players posted two-day total scores of 127 (+19) on the weekend. <\/span><\/p>\n

Cho finished with scores of 80 and 47, Brockstedt with scores of 81 and 46, and Purcell with scores of 84 and 43. <\/span><\/p>\n
