On Saturday, May 11, the 2019 <\/span>Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour<\/span><\/a> played the Middle Atlantic Series at Augustine Golf Club in Stafford, VA. <\/span><\/p>\n

These PKBGT regional events offer innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. <\/span>The PKBGT Series Progression<\/span><\/a> allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage\/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prep Division<\/b><\/h2>\n

Taking home the championship trophy in the 9 player prep division was <\/span>Melanie Walker <\/b>(Burke, VA 2022). Walker finished the afternoon with a score 77 (+5) in winning the first Middle Atlantic regional event of the year. She found her best success with a birdie on the fifth hole. <\/span><\/p>\n

In second place with a score of 81 (+9) was <\/span>Ester Choi <\/b>(Midlothian, VA 2021). Choi made a birdie on the 14th hole to make her way into the runner-up position. <\/span><\/p>\n

Finishing in third place, <\/span>Nichole Trombetta <\/b>(Poquoson, VA 2019) shot a score of 82 (+10) on Saturday. Trombetta kicked off her round in style with an eagle on the second hole! <\/span><\/p>\n

Rounding out the Prep division Top Five, in a two-way tie for fourth place was <\/span>Josephine Nguyen <\/b>(Springfield, VA 2024) and <\/span>Akshitha Vemuru <\/b>(Herndon, VA 2021). Both players shot 85 (+13) on the afternoon. <\/span><\/p>\n

Futures Division <\/b><\/h2>\n

Leading the way in the Futures division was <\/span>Amanda Deener <\/b>(Frederick, MD 2020) with a score of 83 (+11). Deener scored a birdie on the 16th hole to take home the victory. <\/span><\/p>\n

In second place with a score of 84 (+12) was <\/span>Alina Ho <\/b>(Great Falls, VA 2024). <\/span>Claire Kim <\/b>(Lorton, VA 2021) finished in third place with a score of 87 (+15). <\/span><\/p>\n

Jaffa Yeager <\/b>(Chesapeake, VA 2026) finished in fourth place with a score of 88 (+16) on Saturday afternoon. Rounding out the Top Five in the Futures division was <\/span>Kanchana Duangsam <\/b>(Haymarket, VA 2026) with a score of 89 (+17).<\/span><\/p>\n

Discovery Division<\/b><\/h2>\n

Winning the Discovery division was <\/span>Abigail Avallone <\/b>(Adamstown, MD 2026) with a score of 39 (+3). Avallone made a birdie on the second hole to get her round started. <\/span><\/p>\n

Samantha Nguyen <\/b>(Springfield, VA 2026) and <\/span>Tia Macdonald <\/b>(Midlothian, VA 2027) finished in a tie for second place. Both girls finished Saturday\u2019s round with scores of 41 (+5). <\/span><\/p>\n

With a score of 45 (+9), <\/span>Anvitha Vemura <\/b>(Herndon, VA 2025) finished the tournament in third place. Rounding out the Top Finishers, in a two-way tie for fifth place were <\/span>Isabel Vizgaitis <\/b>(Alexandria, VA 2028) and <\/span>Sydney Dinh <\/b>(Fairfax, VA 2028) with scores of 52 (+16).<\/span><\/p>\n

The PKBGT Middle Atlantic Series is back in action on June 1 at Pendleton Golf Club in Ruther Glen, VA. <\/span><\/p>\n

About the PKBGT Regional Series<\/strong><\/h2>\n

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels but are a great place for development golfers to \u201cget into the swing of things\u201d playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course.<\/span><\/p>\n

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls\u2019 golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player\u2019s pace.
