On Saturday, April 20, the <\/span><\/i>Peggy Kirk Bell Girls\u2019 Golf Tour<\/span><\/i><\/a> played the <\/span><\/i>2019 CGA\/PKBGT Vicki DiSantis Qualifier<\/span><\/i><\/a> at <\/span><\/i>Green Valley Country Club<\/span><\/i><\/a> in Greenville, SC. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Wicked weather and wet conditions pushed North Carolina\u2019s Vicki DiSantis Qualifier at Siler City CC<\/a> back until Monday, April 22, now to be held at Carolina Trace Country Club. Though droplets were falling when players arrived at Green Valley Country Club in Greenville, SC on Saturday, South Carolina wasn\u2019t going to let Mother Nature rain on their parade and an attempt to qualify for the prestigious CGA girls championship event. <\/span><\/p>\n

Named after long-time CGA and PKB girls\u2019 golf supporter, Vicki DiSantis, the CGA\u2019s Vicki DiSantis Girls\u2019 Championship will be held at <\/span>Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte, NC on May 11-12, 2019. The field of 45 in Greenville was competing to earn a spot in the event through the PKBGT\u2019s South Carolina qualifier, in partnership with the CGA. <\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to the start of the tournament, the number of exemptions increased so that the Top 13 finishers and ties would secure their spot in the championship event at Pine Island next month. With additional spots in play, the girls headed to the practice facilities to prepare for 18 holes of heated competition, fully aware of the extraordinary performance it would take to make the cut. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Vicki DiSantis Girls Championship annually brings together the top-ranked girls golf talent in both of the Carolinas, so it came as no surprise to see familiar faces of PKB top finishers from 2019 on the course Saturday. <\/span><\/p>\n

Results <\/b><\/h2>\n

Storming out of the gates like North Carolina\u2019s weather the previous night, <\/span>Katelyn Lee <\/b>(Easley, SC 2020) wasted no time jumping out to an early lead. Making the turn after shooting a 34 (-2), Lee was riding the momentum of three birdies on her front. Two additional birdies put Lee at four-under-par with four holes to play. Though she hit a few bumps in the road with a tough three-hole stretch, Lee held on for an impressive even-par round of 72, an exemption into the Vicki DiSantis Girls Championship, and honors as the champion of the CGA\/PKBGT Vicki DiSantis Qualifier! <\/span><\/p>\n

One-stroke behind Lee, <\/span>Cindy Song <\/b>(Charlotte, NC 2023)<\/span> finished the afternoon runner up after scoring a 73 (+1). A flawless front nine left Song at even-par coming through the turn. Her birdie at hole 13 made a push for an under-par finish, but back-to-back bogeys on the subsequent two holes left her in position for second place. Along with a PKBGT trophy, Song earned her exemption into the CGA\u2019s championship event in May. <\/span><\/p>\n

Closing out the Top Three finishers at Green Valley, <\/span>Madison Logan <\/b>(Brasstown, NC 2022) finished in third place with a score of 76 (+4). Logan closed out her front nine with a birdie and that success carried over to the remainder of her round. A birdie on the par-5 hole No. 16 secured her third-place finish and a spot in the Vicki DiSantis Girls\u2019 Championship! <\/span><\/p>\n

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls\u2019 golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls.
