The PKBGT Weekend Review: February 23-24, 2019

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour had the weekend off on the National Series after excessive rainfall canceled the River Run Girls Classic in Davidson, NC. The Central Florida Series competed at River Hills Country Club in Valrico, FL on Saturday.

2019 River Run Girls Classic

On Saturday, rain fell from dawn until dusk in North Carolina. Gloomy grey clouds parked over a majority of the state including Davidson, NC where the National Series was set to play the inaugural River Run Girls Classic.

Though the PKBGT often battles through the elements, a full day of consistent rain piled on top of the previously heavy accumulation of rainfall through the latter portion of the week left the course at Davidson Country Club unplayable. After consultation with the golf course superintendent, the Tour was forced to cancel the weekend’s event. The course is working with the Tour to find a possible date to reschedule the tournament.

Central Florida Series at River Hills Country Club

Mother Nature rained on the PKBGT parade in North Carolina, but in Valrico, FL the sun was blazing and puffy white clouds blanketed the blue skies. On Saturday, February 23, the PKBGT played the Central Florida Series at River Hills Country Club.

Winning the event with a score of 82 (+10), Alyssa Mixon (Wesley Chapel, FL 2023) came out victorious in a tiebreaker playoff to win the Futures Division. Bretton Mackiewicz (Longwood, FL 2025) won the Discovery Division after shooting a 39 (+3), also winning a tiebreaker playoff to claim the win.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2019 season will feature over 90 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast and with over 900 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at
