Waller goes wire to wire at Mid-Atlantic Qualifier

On Sunday, September 30, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded the MIDATLANTIC Invitational Qualifier @ Lakeview GC. Lakeview GC, home of the James Madison University Dukes men’s and women’s golf teams, proved a challenging course for this two-day Invitational Qualifier. The event features a field of 14 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

Lauren Waller (2015, Canonsburg, PA) carded a 71-76-147 three over par to claim her first PKBGT title.  The long hitting Waller closed with a 2-over par 38 on the back nine for a two shot win over Jordan McKelvin (2015, Westminster, MD) 74-75-149.  Rachel Lee (2014, Woodstock, MD) made a charge with back to back birdies on 13 & 14 before late bogies to finish in third, 73-78-151.

The next to last pairing also featured great drama as Elizabeth Bose (2015, Norfolk, VA) and Louisville verball committee Shannon Gramley (2013, Sharon, PA) battled till the final hole for the final qualifying spot.  Bose was able to hold on with a bogey on the final hole to finish 76-81-157, one shot ahead of Gramley 77-81-158.  Waller, McKelvin, Lee and Bose receive an automatic invitation to PKBGT Invitational @ Grandover Resort (East Course) in November.

PKBGT returns Saturday-Sunday, October 13-14 with the CAROLINA’S Invitational Qualifier @ Waterford GC in Rock Hill, SC. This is the second invitational qualifier of the season, bringing together players from across North and South Carolina.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
