On Saturday, June 30, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Bash at the Bay @ Kingsmill Resort on the River Course. Kingsmill Resort, home of the 2012 LPGA Kingsmill Championship, proved a challenging course for day one of this two-day event. The event features a field of 44 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.
The Bell Division field features 25 golfers, highlighted by four of the top 30 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Ashlii Thompson (Browns Summit, NC 2013) is leading the field by two strokes at three over par with a score of 74. Not far behind Thompson is Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) at five over par with a score of 76 and Lauren Kruszewski (Chesapeake, VA 2013 at seven over par with a score of 78 There are five other girls within seven strokes of the leader.
The Futures Division field features 19 golfers, highlighted by five of the top 30 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Katie Turk (Blacksburg, VA 2015) is leading the field by one strokes at nine over par with a score of 80. Not far behind Turk is Scotti McGowan (Southern Pines, NC 2015) and Holly McCann (Raleigh, NC 2019) at 10 over par with a score of 81 and Carson Durham (Dinwiddie, VA 2018) and Ashley Nguyen (South Riding, VA 2017) at 11 over par with a score of 82. There are five other girls within six strokes of the leader.
Weather on Sunday looks like another scorcher with sunny skies temperatures in the high 90s/low 100s. Despite the heat, it looks another great day for shooting lower scores and an excellent day to conclude this two-day tournament.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
