Thompson, Cullip win One-Day Open Series @ Bermuda Run CC (West)

On Friday, June 15, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series @ Bermuda Run CC (West). Bermuda Run CC (West) proved a challenging course for this one-day event. The event featured a field of 55 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

In the Bell Division, Ashlii Thompson (Browns Summitt, NC 2013) carded three over par with a score of 75 to win the tournament. When asked about her first win of the 2012 season, Thompson responded, “It feels really good to finally win. I saved a lot of pars thanks to strong putting. Overall, just a great day.” Katy Funk (Spartanburg, SC 2013) carded five over par with a score of 77 to place second and Abbey Hartsell (Hickory, NC 2015) carded five over par with a score of 77 to place third.

In the Futures Division, there was a one hole playoff between Megan Cullip (Charlotte, NC 2015) and Savannah Gowarty (Raleigh, NC 2015) who both carded five over par with a scores of 77 each. Cullip drained a 25 foot birdie putt to win the playoff over Gowarty. When asked about her sudden-death win, Cullip responded, “I was so nervous in the playoff. I can’t believe I made that putt to win!” Annika Winebarger (State Road, NC 2014) carded six over par with a score of 78 to place third.

PKBGT returns Thursday, June 21 with the One-Day Open Series @ Spring Valley CC in Columbia, SC. It should be an exciting & challenging event.
