Nguyen, Turk win at rainy Terrapin Classic Wrap

The 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour teed off this weekend with the Terrapin Classic @ University of Maryland GC . The University of Maryland GC, home of the University of Maryland Terrapins men’s and women’s teams, proved a challenging course for this two day event. The event featured a field of 34 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

Unfortunately, the weather for round two did not cooperate.  While the girls were able to play a few holes, due to rain puddles on the greens and constant rain in the forecast for the rest of the afternoon, the golf course and tournament officials decided it was necessary to end play.  Because of the rain cancellation, the two-day tournament was scored as a one-day tournament.

In the Bell Division, Bryana Nguyen (Columbia, MD 2014) carded one under par with a score of 70 to place first. When asked about her win, Nguyen said, “It was my first win of the season, so that’s a great start.” Chandler Case (Rock Hill, SC 2014) shot two over par with a score of 73 to place second and Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) at four over par with a score of 75 to place third.

The Futures Division, Katie Turk (Blacksburg, VA 2015) carded five under par with a score of 76 to place first. When asked about her first win on the PKB Tour, Turk said, “I’m really excited.  It was my lowest score and my first win ever.” Amber Liu (Vienna, VA 2016) shot eight over par with a score of 79 to place second and Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) shot nine over par with a score of 80 to place third.

PKBGT returns to action next week with the One-Day open Series @ Sapona CC, site of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifier, in Lexington, NC on April 28. This is the first one-day open series event of the 2012 season. It should be an exciting & challenging event.
