Shoomee, Rea win One-Day Open Series @ Devils Ridge

On Thursday, July 26, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series @ Devils Ridge GC. Devils Ridge GC proved a challenging course for this one-day event. The event featured a field of 23 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

In the Bell Division, Siranon Shoomee (Sanford, NC 2016) carded four over par with a score of 76 to win the tournament. When asked about her first win on the PKB Tour, Shoomee responded, “It feels awesome to win.” Shoomee credits her win to her consistent tee shots. Sophie Riegel (Cary, NC 2014) carded five over par with a score of 77 to place second and Peyton Durham (Dinwiddie, VA 2015) carded eight over par with a score of 80 to place third.

In the Futures Division, Caroline Rea (Pinehurst, NC 2017) carded four over par with a score of 76 to win the tournament. When asked about her first win on the PKB Tour, Rea responded, “It feels really great. I’m very excited. I really enjoyed playing this course and look forward to playing in more PKB events.” Haeley Wotnosky (Wake Forest, NC 2018) carded eight over par with a score of 80 to place second and Christy Johnson (Raleigh, NC 2015) carded 12 over par with a score of 84 to place third.

PKBGT returns Monday-Tuesday, July 30-31 with the Boar’s Head Inn Classic @ Birdwood CC at UVA in Charlottesville, VA. This is the last two-day tournament of the summer season, bringing together the top players from Maryland, Viriginia and North Carolina. It should be an exciting & challenging event.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
