Sambach adds to a stellar year with a victory at the 2017 PKBGT Invitational

At age 13, Amanda Sambach won the 2015 PKBGT Futures Order of Merit. At age 14, Sambach won the 2016 PKBGT Prep Order of Merit. This year, at age 15, Sambach won the PKBGT Bell Order of Merit, being the first player to complete the PKBGT Order of Merit trifecta.

This past weekend, Sambach added to her growing list of achievements by winning the 2017 PKBGT Invitational by 3 shots to edge out former Bell Order of Merit Champion Emily Hawkins. Sambach, a University of Virginia commit, has already won 3 PKBGT Championships this year, taking home the PKBGT Masters, Tour Championship and Precision Girls titles.

In the first round on Saturday, Sambach remarked that she had a fairly average opening performance, shooting 76 in tough, cold conditions. Her even keel mindset helped her to steadily improve each day, shooting 74 on Sunday and 71 in the final round today. “I was just trying to minimize the mistakes I had made from the previous day,” said Sambach.

“I knew that I was ahead of Emily [Hawkins] and my group, but I wasn’t sure about the other groups. I usually don’t like to know what’s going on,” Sambach said, who had a live scoreboard following her group through Sunday’s round.

On the 14th hole of her final round, Sambach knocked her approach shot to a couple feet for an easy birdie to extend her lead to 3 strokes. “To be honest, I didn’t actually think my shot was that close from afar,” Sambach laughed. “It was a pleasant surprise, I guess.”

“Every tournament I play in I try to represent and do my best, so this tournament was good,” said Sambach. Amanda’s next event will be the PKBGT Tournament of Champions presented by Golf Pride on December 2nd and 3rd at Pinehurst number 8.
