Recap: PKBGT Central Florida Series Kickoff at Disney presented by the IOA Golf Classic

On Saturday, January 5th, the 2019 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the Central Florida Series Kickoff at Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course.  The 2019 kickoff event served as the beginning of the 2nd annual Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour (PKBGT)  regional series in the Central Florida region. The PKBGT is excited to be working in partnership with Insurance Office of America as the presenting sponsor of the series for the second year in a row!

These PKBGT regional events offer an innovative yardage-based divisions to girls aged 9-17. The PKBGT Series Progression allows players to progress towards playing collegiate golf by playing yardage/skill appropriate tournaments as they develop their game.

The Champion of the Prep Division of the kickoff event was Rayab Lee (Springfield, VA 2021) with a score of 86. In second place with a 92 was Taylor Ellis (Belle Isle, FL 2020) followed by Loa Johannsson (ChampionsGate, FL 2024) with a 95 and Sarah Fox (Lakeland, FL 2021) with a 96.

In the Futures Division, Abigail Fernandez (Windermere, FL 2023) won by one shot with an 86 over Darby Hancock (Sorrento, FL 2025) who posted an 87. In third place is Madilyn Saxton (Guyton, GA 2024) with an 89. Rounding out the top five with a score of 94 is Lauren Perry (New Smyrna Beach, FL 2020).

The Champion of the Discovery Division was Gracie Song (Waxhaw, NC 2026) who posted a score of one-over par 37. Just one shot behind Song was Mara King (Longwood, FL 2025) with a 38. In third place was PKBGT newcomer Briel Royce (Orlando, FL 2027) who posted a 42 in her first PKBGT event. Rounding out the top 5 in a tie for 4th place was Bretton Mackiewicz (Longwood, FL 2025) and Riley Fletcher (Winter Springs, FL 2025).

One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The Central Florida Regional Series Kickoff event features a field of 24 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
