Polo, Rice win at One-Day Open Series @ Sapona CC

The 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour tees off Saturday, April 28 at the One-Day Open Series @ Sapona CC. Sapona CC, site of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifier, is a challenging course for this one-day event. The event features a field of 65 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

In the Bell Division, Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) carded one over par with a score of 72 to win the tournament.  This is Polo’s second win of the 2012 PKBGT season and makes back-to-back wins in the past two PKB events she has played.  When asked about how it feels to win back-to-back, Polo responded, “Back-to-back wins feels really good” In her first tournament as a Bell Division player, Gina Kim (Gina Chapel Hill, NC 2018)  shot four over par with a score of 75 to place second and Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) shot seven over par with a score of 78 to place third.

PKBGT would also like to congratulate Bell Division player Bethany Galloway (Charlotte, NC 2013) on her hole-in-one on hole #3, a 155 yard par 3.  This is Galloway’s second hole-in-one in her career and her first on the PKBGT.  Galloway’s hole-in-one is the third in PKBGT history.

In the Futures Division,  Callista Rice (Mars Hill, NC 2017) carded 12 over par with a score of 83 to win the tournament.  This was Rice’s first PKBGT event of the 2012 season.  When asked about her win, Rice said, “It was great to play my first PKB event and I’m surprised I won.” Annika Winebarger (State Road, NC 2014) shot 14 over par with a score of  85 to place second and Janie Thomas (Winston-Salem, NC 2016) shot 16 over par wit ha score of 87 to place third.
