Salisbury, NC – The final round of the PKB Girls Golf Tour Open at Salisbury was rained out on Monday. Therefore, day two leader Sara Bae of Cary, NC, took home the major championship title by three shots. The win was the second this year for the talented girl from Cary and her second day finish of three birdies in her last five holes really sealed the tournament for her getting her to one under par and a two day total of 141. “Coming down the stretch I knew it was important to stay in the moment and take one shot at a time, said Bae. When I finished with three birdies by sticking with my gameplan I was really excited!” Bae looks forward to a competitive amateur schedule this summer including the US Jr. Amatuer Championship and several other national events. Following Bae was two time PKB order of merit champion Katherine Perry of Cary, NC. Perry finished second in the first major of the year and tied Bae for low round with a 70 of her own on day two (74-70—144). Following Bae and Perry were Kristi Ingram of Winston – Salem, NC at 4 over par (72-74—146),Taylor Allison of Elizabeth City, NC at (74-75—149), Katie Kirk of Davidson, NC ( 77-73-150) and Andrea Robbins of Liberty, NC (76-75-151). In the Futures division, Sarah Spicer of Bahama, NC and Gabrielle Chappell of Charlotte, NC competed in a rain filled head to head playoff that ended on the second hole when Chappell sunk a nice putt for par. Both girls posted scores of 80 for the event. Following the girls were Nicolette Donovan of Cary, NC at 81, and Grace Yatawara of Salisbury, NC, Isabella Rusher of Salisbury, NC and Emily Stinson of Charlotte, NC at 82. Salisbury, NC – Over 80 girls are ready to compete at the PKB Girls Golf Tours second major of the year at the Country Club of Salisbury making it one of the largest events in the tour history!
The event will include current order of merit leader and PKB Masters at Pine Needles champion, Lyberty Anderson, of Chesterfield, Va. Also, the top player in the North Carolina rankings, Katherine Perry, will be in the field. The event will be a three day event for the Bell Division and two day event for the Futures. The tournament will be ranked by the Sagarin/Golfweek National rankings, Junior Golf Scoreboard, and both North and South Carolina’s system. The Bell Division winner will also receive an AJGA tournament exemption and the Futures winner will receive AJGA all star points.
