PKBGT Fall Invitational shows offer girls’ golf talent
Lucia Polo captures title by 3 shots!
Stoney Creek, NC – The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour wrapped up its final event of the year at Stoney Creek Golf Club this past weekend for the 2011 PKBGT Fall Invitational. The event featured the top girl golfers on the east coast including Ohio and a few players from other countries.
The event included the tour’s top 60 players who earned their invite into the event through the tour’s Order of Merit rankings. Nearly 60 girls competed in the event.
At the events close, Lucia Polo of Guatemala (currently residing in Greensboro, NC ) took home the prestigious title leading wire to wire with scores of 70 – 72 – 142 for an even par performance. The win was Polo’s second on tour after she earned her way into the event through a win at the PKB tour’s last open qualifier at Chapel Ridge GC.
“I have been working about 25 hours a week on my game and I stuck to my game plan of playing the golf course and not the players this week. My focus on the task and not the field really helped me stay in the moment rather than thinking about where I stood in the tournament,”stated Polo after her round.
Although, Polo delivered a spectacular performance, Shannon Brooks of Vienna, VA proved to everybody that at a young age, she can play with the best. Brooks nearly one a PKB event in Virginia this fall, but was edged out by Order of Merit Champion Bryana Nguyen and proved again this event that she is poised to be a great champion. It certainly looks like a big win could be in her near future. Brooks posted scores of 72-73 – 145 for the event.
Following the two was third place, Jessica Porvasnik of Hinckley, Ohio (74 – 77 –151),fourth place, Victoria Allred of Pfafftown, NC (75 – 77 – 152) and a four way tie for fifth place at 154 with Lyberty Anderson of Chesterfield, VA, Tara Simmons of Goldsboro, NC, Madison Moosa of Charlotte, NC, and Kelsey Badmaev of Blythewood, SC.
