Oxner/Hearp claim first PKBGT titles at USC

A sunny and wet weekend is in the books on the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour. Warm weather and a rain delayed round one highlighted the weekend at the Palmetto Classic @ USC Cobblestone Park GC. The home course of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, Cobblestone serves as a beautiful, undulating course for this two day event.

The Bell Division title was claimed by Louise Oxner (2013, Greenville, SC) who claimed her first PKBGT title of the year. Playing in only her 2nd PKBGT event of her career, Louise took a 2 shot lead over Makalyn Poole (2015, Williamston, SC) after firing a 73 (+3) during the opening round. Day 2 saw the tournament tighten as Louise’s lead had shrunk to 1 after 12 holes due a string of bogeys and the steady play of Victoria Allred (2014, Pfafftown, NC) a group ahead. Louise regained her form and made 5 straight bogeys to claim a 3-shot victory (73-79-152) and the automatic invitation into the PKBGT Tour Championship. Riley Lovorn (2014, Anderson, SC) shot the low score of the day, 76, to claim second place (79-76-155). Allred claimed third at 78-79-157.

The Futures Division saw Kristin Hearp (2016, Salem, VA) claim her first PKBGT title. Hearp started hot with a 1-over par 36 on the front to take a commanding 8 shot lead. She held off a late charge from Naomi Mitchell (2018, Norfolk, VA) who holed out for eagle on 16 to get within two shots but it was not enough. Hearp finished 81-78-159 to claim a 2-shot victory. Mitchell finished in second with a 85-77-162. Kate Harper (2016, Isle of Palms, SC) finished third at 83-84-167.
