On Saturday, September 29, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the MIDATLANTIC Invitational Qualifier @ Lakeview GC. Lakeview GC, home of the James Madison University Dukes men’s and women’s golf teams, proved a challenging course for day one of this two-day Invitational Qualifier. The top four finishers in the qualifier will receive automatic entry into the PKBGT INVITATIONAL @ Grandover Resort (East Course) in November. The event features a field of 14 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.
The field features 14 players highlighted by three of the top 45 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Lauren Waller (2015, Canonsburg, PA) is leading the field by 2 strokes with a one-under par 71. Not far behind is Rachel Lee (2014, Woodstock, MD) at one over par 73. Jordan McKelvin (2015, Westminster, MD) will round out the final group after firing a 74 on day 1. Five additional players will enter day 2 eight shots of less from the lead and in the hunt for the four qualifying positions.
Weather on Sunday looks sunny and ideal for scoring. It should be an exciting end to the first Invitational Qualifier of the fall season.
