IRVING, Texas – September 14, 2011 – One day after helping the East Carolina women’s golf team claim the 2011 Golfweek Program Challenge women’s title, senior Julia Strandberg was named Conference USA Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week the league announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Greensboro, N.C. native had a career tournament taking third place with a three-day score of 216 (68-76-72) – both career-bests. She capped off her opening round 68 (35-33) recording five birdies in the last seven holes for a career-low round, which was also the second-lowest 18-hole score of the Challenge. During the third round, she posted six birdies, four on the front nine. In all, she fired 14 birdies with 26 pars and claimed her first career top three finish.
Standberg and the Pirates (11-0) will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 19 when they travel to Louisville, Ky. to participate in the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup
