Allred, Gowarty lead after round 1 @ Birdwood CC

On Monday, July 30, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the Boar’s Head Inn Classic @ Birdwood CC at UVA. Birdwood CC at UVA, hof the University of Virginia Cavaliers men’s and women’s golf teams, proved a challenging course for day one of this two-day event. The event features a field of 23 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.

The Bell Division field features 18 golfers, highlighted by four of the top 25 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Victoria Allred (Pfafftown, NC 2014) is leading the field by one strokes at one over par with a score of 72. Not far behind Allred is Lyberty Anderson (Chesterfield, VA 2014) at two over par with a score of 73 and Allison Wong (Rockville, MD 2014) at three over par with a score of 74. There are three other girls within five strokes of the leader.

The Futures Division field features 5 golfers, highlighted by three of the top 45 players on the 2012 PKBGT Order of Merit lists. After round one, Savannah Gowarty (Raleigh, NC 2015) is leading the field by two strokes at 14 over par with a score of 85. Not far behind Gowarty is Casey Gaffney (Chesterfield, VA 2014) and Hanna Jia (Potomac, MD 2015) at tied at 16 over par with a score of 87.

Weather forecasts for Tuesday are sunny skies with temperatures in the mid 80ss. It looks a great day for shooting low scores and an excellent day to conclude this two-day tournament.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
