As the frost melted and the sun peaked out, Round 2 of the 2018 PKBGT began. Players had one last chance on moving day to reach the line before cuts were made at the end of Sunday, November 11.
There was a three-way tie for first place after Round 1 between Anna Morgan (Spartanburg, SC 2019), Katherine Schuster (Kill Devils Hill, NC 2021) and Kendall Turner (Chesapeake, VA 2019). Two of the three remain atop the leaderboard after Round 2.
The change of scenery transitioning over to the East Course didn’t phase Morgan, who jumped out to a fast start with back-to-back birdies. She rarely hiccuped and remained level headed throughout the day. On her final hole, Morgan landed her approach shot within six inches of the cup, leaving herself an easy tap-in for birdie to end the day with a 69 (-3) for a tournament total of 140 (-4).
Schuster played a solid round of her own, including two birdies, and finished the afternoon two-over bringing her tournament total to 146 (+3).
Firing a strong even par on the day was Paris Fieldings (Suffolk, VA 2023), who moved into T3 at 147 (+3). Reining champion Amanda Sambach (Davidson, NC 2021) played strong, ending the day one-over and with a 147 (+3) for the tournament, T3.
Rounding out the top 5 is Faith Choi (Frederick, MD 2021) who also shot one-over on the day and sits in 5th place with 148 (+4).
The final round starts tomorrow morning at the East Course at Bermuda CC. We look forward to an exciting finish to the 10th annual PKBGT Invitational!
