The banquet hall at Bermuda Run Country Club was decked out as were the attendees at the Inspire. Dream. Achieve Banquet on Friday night, November 9th. Players, parents and friends of the tour dressed in their finest attire to celebrate the commencement of a the 2019 season.
The banquet marked the start of the tour’s largest event, the 2018 PKBGT Invitational. One of the top 50 tournaments in the country, the 10th anniversary of the Invitational brings together the tour’s top competitors for a three-day event.
Players and parents took part in a meet and greet to begin the evening in the lobby of the elegant Bermuda Run event hall. Girls posed for photos in front of the magnificent PKBGT backdrop as parents took the opportunity for a free photoshoot. Tables commemorating 10 years of the PKBGT Invitational were lined with images of past champions and alumni through the years.
The celebration shifted to the main dining hall where a southern fiesta including a make-your-own taco bar saw the girls and their families lined to the doors in anticipation. At the end of the line was the ever so popular dessert bar with home baked chocolate chip cookies and brownies. Families enjoyed conversation and laughter over their savory feast.
Upon the conclusion of the meal, tour director Mike Parker spoke about the 10 years of the PKBGT Invitational. Developmental director Emily Brooks followed with a presentation on the #LetsPlayPKB Campaign, the tour’s mission to level the playing field and create 1,000 girls-only golf tournaments in the US.
The celebration shifted to the tour’s current players as all of the 2018 Order of Merit Champions were awarded plaques in recognition of their incredible accomplishments of the past season. Seven of the twelve winners were in attendance and stood center stage to receive their awards.
Following the award ceremony, everyone in attendance was treated to guest speaker Emilia Migliaccio. Migliaccio, a former PKBGT Invitational champion and current two-time NCAA All American at Wake Forest University, spoke about turning your fears into motivation and taking control of your game.
Migliaccio was joined by former Wake Forest coach and four-time ACC coach of the year Dianne Dailey along with Recruit PKB’s Brandi Jackson for a special guest panel. The trio touched on topics such as the recruiting process, new NCAA regulations and what college coaches are looking for in junior golfers. The floor was opened for players and parents to ask questions.
The banquet wrapped up with a reminder of the rules and regulations regarding the tournament on the following morning, and with that, the 2018 PKBGT Invitational officially began! All proceeds at the banquet went to all proceeds from the Inspire. Dream. Achieve. Banquet benefited the PKBGT Let’s Play Campaign.
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers. Based out of Greensboro, North Carolina, the PKBGT offers affordable, high-quality nationally ranked girls’ golf tournaments designed to prepare junior girls’ golfers for high school and collegiate golf.
