The weather was perfect and the course in amazing shape. Greens as pure as the sky is blue. Nerves have settled and scores got lower. Boiling Springs High School won their 1st WSCGA Junior Golf Foundation
Championship beating defending champions Lexington High School by 14 shots. The team was lead by Mary Kathryn Talledo who played consistantly both days posting a 75-78=153 and securing an individual overall 5th place finish in the field. Amber Amaker also finished in the top ten with a two day total of 158. Rounding out the team scores was Madison Lynn Dixon with a 160 and Kyleigh Antley 204.
Lexington High School finished 2nd in roller coaster fashion. After completing the first round Lexington was in second place until realizing one of their top 3 players got disqualified for signing a wrong scorecard
dropping Lexington into 7th place with a lot of ground to make up. The gap ended up being to great, but that didn’t keep them from fighting for the championship and settling for 2nd. Three of the four players posted a 37 on the front nine with Isabella Rawl leading the charge with an even par 72 for the day. Karlee Vardis bounced back and posted a 75, Molly Hardwick a 76, and Emily Beiers 89.
Finishing 3rd today was Blythewood HighSchool shooting 247-251=498. During the live scoring Blythewood bounced around in the top 3 slots to end up in 3rd. Leading Blythewood in the final round was Parker Stalvey with an 82. Following Stalvey was her sister, Ella Stalvey, and Cori Langford shooting an 84 and 85, respectively. Lizzie Madden posted an 86.
In Fourth Place for the tournament was the team of Byrnes High School. Byrnes shot a two day total of 500. Leading the team in the final round
was Anika Rana (77) who had nothing over bogey today on her card and one birdie. Also representing Byrnes was Katie Spurling (80), Sophia Kinsella (87), and Liz Wagner (90).
Finishing 5th for the weekend was Oceanside High School with a 250-252=502. Oceanside High was lead by 2018 WSCGA Junior State Girls Champion, Rachel Rich carding a pair of 75’s for an overall individual 3rd place finish in the field. Finishing out the the team was Gabby Martinez (86), Lexi Lucarelli (90), and Haven Hobbs (99).
The all tournament team for the Invitational was awarded to the top 5 overall individual players. The top 5 finishers were Emily Dunlap, Kennedy Gooding, Rachel Rich, Emma Charles, and Mary Kathryn Talledo. Dunlap playing for Mauldin High School as an individual, shot a over par 75 in round one and five under 67 today. Dunlap’s two day total of 142 included six birdies and an exemption into the 2018 Peggy Kirk Bell Championship, 2018 Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational, 2019 Eggland’s Best Championship, and 2019 Vicki Desantis Invitational. Kennedy Gooding (Gilbert High School) posted an even par 72 today with 3 birdies and 3 bogey’s being good enough to also earn a sponsor exemption into the PKGT Championship and Invitational; while Rich will receive an exemption into the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational. Emma Charles from Hartsville High School posted 5 birdies over the two days for her 4th place finish.
