Recap: Wrigley, Atwood Win PKB Foundation Classic @ Mid Pines

The PKBGT returns to action this coming weekend for the Peggy Kirk Bell Foundation Classic at Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club.  Mid Pines, a classic Donald Ross designed course in the heart of the Sandhills of North Carolina, was named “Best U.S Restoration of the Year” in 2013 by Golf Magazine. The event features a field 58 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’Mid Pines Inn & GCs largest “girls’ only” junior tour.

This event is the first event in the  LPGA Symetra Tour’s Women’s Health Classic Junior Challenge. This challenge is composed of 6 events where Bell and Prep players are awarded points based on their finish in those fields. The Top-29  players, and one sponsors exemption, will then compete in the Junior Challenge Qualifier on April 1-2, 2017 at The Links at Stoney Point. The Challenge champion will receive a sponsor exemption into the Self Regional Women’s Health Classic on May 1-7 2017 at the Links at Stoney Point.

Winning the Bell Series was defending champion Caroline Wrigley (Wexford, PA 2019) with rounds of 77-74-151.  In second place by four strokes was Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) with rounds of 82-75-157.  In third place matching cards with a 77-80-157 was Riley Smyth (Cary, NC 2018).  In fourth place by one stroke was Muskan Uppal (Cornelius, NC 2019) with rounds of 80-78-158.  In fifth place with rounds of 79-81-160 was Lauren Freyvogel (Gibsonia, PA 2019).

Winning the Futures Series was Maria Atwood (Holly Springs, NC 2022) with rounds of 74-79-153.  In second place was Angelique Seymour (Fayetteville, NC 2019) with rounds of 86-86-172.  In third place was Abby Hunter (Blacksburg, VA 2021) with rounds of 88-88-176.  In fourth place was Layla Meric (Wesley Chapel, NC 2021) with rounds of 88-89-177.  In fifth place was Morgan Ellison (Peachtree City, GA 2021) with rounds of 90-88-178.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
