On Monday, July 28, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Forest Oaks Country Club. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 39 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.
In the Bell Division-Prep Series, Rhea Bhatia (Wake Forest, NC 2015) and Meghan Holbrooks (Winston-Salem, NC 2014) both shot five over par each with a scores of 77. On the fifth hole of a sudden-death playoff, Holbrooks made eagle on a par five to win the title.
In the Futures Division, Olivia John (Summerfield, NC 2018) shot six over par with a score of 78 to place first. Jordan Young (Winston-Salem, NC 2016) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place second. Hannah Rose Bruxvoort (Chapel Hill, NC 2018) and Kendall Jane Vaughn (Mount Airy, NC 2016) both shot nine over par each with scores of 81 to tie for third place.
With their victories, Holbrooks and John received a class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. PKBGT returns to action on Friday-Saturday, August 1-2 with the Commonwealth Classic @ Lexington Golf & CC in Lexington, VA. The course is home to Washington & Lee University golf teams and the event brings together players from Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
