Recap: Pritchett wins One-Day Open at Stoney Creek

On Thursday, July 3, the 2014 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Sapona Ridge Country Club. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 24 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 375 members in 2013 and 262 girls playing in or committed to collegiate golf.

In the Bell Division-Prep Series, Katie Pritchett (Dry Fork, VA 2016) and Sarah Towne (Chapel Hill, NC 2015) both shot 14 over par each with a scores of 85. The two played a seven-hole sudden-death playoff until Pritchett made an easy par to place first.

In the Futures Division, Micah Mason (Richfield, NC 2016) shot 11 over par with a score of 82 to place first. Olivia John (Summerfield, NC 2018) shot 12 over par with a score of 83 to place second. Dametrah Lewis (Whispering Pines, NC 2016) shot 13 over par with a score of 84 to place third.

With their victories, Pritchett and Mason received a class A exemptions into the Tournament of Champions this fall. PKBGT returns to action on Friday, July 11 with the One-Day Open Series @ Rocky River GC in Concord, NC. The event brings together players from North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour is an initiative of the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation aimed at increasing learning and playing opportunities for youth golfers.
