On Monday, August 12, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club. Pine Needles, host the US Women’s Open in 1996, 2001, and 2007, is among the most well know golf courses in the southern US and a ideal setting for the final open major championship of the PKB Tour regular season. The event features a field of 76 players. The field is quite strong with 23 event champions from the 2013 season and 20 of the top 30 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists.
The Bell Division field features 47 golfers, highlighted by four of the top 30 players 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit list and eight event champions from the 2013 season. After round one, Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) is leading the field by one stroke at two under par with a score of 69. Right behind Brooks is Jessica Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) at one under par with a score of 70. Elizabeth Bose (Norfolk, VA 2015) and Savannah Gowarty (Raleigh, NC 2015) are tied for third at even par each with scores of 71.
The Futures Division field features 29 golfers, highlighted by 16 of the top 30 players on the 2013 PKBGT Order of Merit lists and 13 event champions from the 2013 season. After round one, Kathryn Carson (Mooresville, NC 2017) and Moon Cheong (Charlotte, NC 2017) are tied for first at two over par each with scores of 73 and are leading the field by one stroke. Not far behind the leaders is Lena Capoccia (Bethesda, MD 2018) at three over par with a score of 74 and Susannah Ireland (Wake Forest, NC 2017) is at four over par with a score of 75.
Weather for Tuesday looks sunny and humid with temperatures in the low 90s. Despite the balmy weather, it should be a great conclusion to the final open major championship of the PKB Tour regular season. Who will be golden?
