Recap: Lyle wins One-Day at Chapel Hill

On Monday, August 5, the 2013 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the One-Day Open Series at Chapel Hill Country Club. Chapel Hill is a esteemed course for eight and final one-day tournament of the 2013 season. One-day tournaments are designed for golfers of all skill levels, but are a great place for development golfers to “get in to the swing of things” playing tournament golf. The goal of One-Day Open Series events is to provide a fun and friendly tournament on a premium golf course. The event featured a field of 47 players.

In the Bell Division, Taylor Lyle (Orlando, FL 2013) shot three over par with a score of 75 to place first. Savannah Gowarty (Raleigh, NC 2015) and Emily Herron (Charlotte, NC 2015) both shot six over par with scores of 78 to tie for second place. Rice won a two-hole sudden-death playoff to win the tournament. Casey Burroughs (Wake Forest, NC 2016) shot seven over par with a score of 79 to place third.

With their victory’s today, Lyle and Rice both received exemptions into the sixth major tournament of the season, the Tournament of Champions which is being held at Moss Creek Country Club (North Course) in Hilton Head Island, SC in September.

PKBGT returns to action on Monday-Tuesday, August 12-13 with the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, NC. Pine Needles, site of the US Women’s Open in 1996, 2001, and 2007, is among the most well know golf courses in the southern US and a ideal setting for the final open major championship of the PKB Tour regular season. The tournament brings together players from across Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. It should be a great tournament. Who will be golden?
