On Saturday, November 10, the 2012 Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the first round of the PKBGT INVITATIONAL @ Grandover Resort (East Course). Host of the annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate tournament, the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf regional tournament, and the 2011 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship, Grandover Resort (East Course) is a challenging course for this three-day event. The event features a field of 53 players from the PKB Girls’ Golf Tour, the nation’s largest “girls’ only” junior tour with over 400 members and 94 alumni in the collegiate ranks.
After round one, Madison Moosa (Charlotte, NC 2017) and Lucia Polo (Greensboro, NC 2013) are tied for first and leading the field by two strokes at one under par with scores of 71. Not far behind Moosa and Polo is Shannon Brooks (Vienna, VA 2015) and Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, PA 2015) tied at one over par with scores of 73. Gina Kim (Chapel Hill, NC 2018), Cecily Overbey (High Point, NC 2014), and Sarah Spicer (Bahama, NC 2016) are four stokes behind the leaders at three over par with scores of 75.
The PKBGT INVITATIONAL is the fifth and final major of the year, bringing together the top players from the Carolinas, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia. Who will be golden? Sunday is “Moving day” since following the round, the field will be cut to the low 30 scores including ties for Championship Monday. The weather for Sunday looks sunny with temperatures in the 60s and 70s. Ideal for scoring low. It should be an exciting second day to the PKBGT INVITATIONAL tournament.
