Nguyen takes Round 1 Lead at Charleston Classic
Posts even par round of 72 to lead by 2 shots.
Mt. Pleasant, SC – The PKB Girls Golf Tour moved south for their second event of the year for the Charleston Classic at Patriots Point Golf Links in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Great weather was a nice addition to the windy and firm conditions at the Point, but Bryana Nguyen of Columbia, MC passed its test posting a first round 72 to take the 2 shot lead.
“The first nine holes was a big test for me as it took a bit to adjust to the firm greens out here, stated Nguyen. On the back nine I found a better rhythm and adjusted well to the conditions. Also, I was happy with my play from the tee and with the putter.. especially since they are new in the bag for this event.”
Nguyen’s performance included three birdies on the back nine including the difficult 17th island par 3. Her nines of 37 – 35 , were even more impressive when locals say that the back nine plays 2 to 3 shots tougher.
“I was glad the wind was with us on the home stretch today, but I know I would like to get off to a great start tomorrow in case we are not as fortunate down the stretch for round two.”
Following Nguyen, is the Maryland state champ, Elyse Smidinger of Crofton, MD who looks to follow up her last event playoff loss to Victoria Allred with a win in Charleston.
