Aces & Playoffs in Hilton Head: Guthrie & Dickerson Win at Regional Tournament of Champions

Hilton Head, S.C. — The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour headed to Palmetto Dunes Resort’s Arthur Hills Golf Course for the 2024 PKBGT Regional Tournament of Champions.

The PKBGT’s Regional Series champions from the past year all convened to beautiful Hilton Head, SC to crown the “champion of champions”.

In the Prep Preview division, Bryn Krosse (York, PA 2030) set the early pace with a steady opening round of 73 (+1) that included one birdie and 15 pars. Chaeeun Yu (Marietta, GA 2029) was right on her tail following her first round 75 (+3) with many other close behind. The leaderboard looked similar halfway through the second round as the division turned onto the Arthur Hills course tough back nine.

Krosse and Yu failed to make a birdie on the back nine opening the door for others to make a charge. Lina Polteraitis (Florence, SC 2026) made the turn at even par and made two birdies on her back nine to close with a round of 71 (-1). It was good enough to move her into a tie for third for the weekend. The turning point of the day came on the 142 yard par-3 15th. It took Elizabeth Guthrie (Charlotte, NC 2028) just one 9-iron swing to complete the hole, an ace to vault her into the lead! It proved to be the difference as she would win the division by two strokes.

Finishing in second place for the weekend was Harper Hedden (Hilton Head Island, SC). Hedden made four birdies in her Sunday round of 75 (+3). Bryn Krosse & Chaeeun Yu would finish in a tie for third place with Polteraitis.

The Futures National division had dramatics as well as four players were within five strokes of Kayla Jackson‘s (Charlotte, NC 2031) overnight lead. After starting three over par thru three holes on Sunday, Jackson righted the ship closing out the remainder of her front nine in two-under. Madelyn Dickerson (Debary, FL 2023) entered the day just two strokes off the lead and finished on fire. Dickerson would make a birdie on the difficult par-4 17th while Jackson made a double bogey, giving Dickerson a one-shot lead. Jackson would answer immediately making a birdie on the 18th to force a sudden death playoff.

In the playoff, the pair would match scores on the first playoff hole; sending the duo to the second hole. The difficult hole is where the champion would be decided with Dickerson winning the playoff with a bogey on the second playoff hole. In third place for the weekend was Reema Venkatesh (Marietta, GA 2031) who closed with an impressive round of 74 (+2). Autumn Capote (Waxhaw, NC 2029) finished in fourth place for the weekend after her final round 77 (+5). Rounding out the top five was Addie Lupton (Tega Cay, SC 2031) who made six birdies over the weekend.

Congratulations to the champions of the Regional Tournament of Champions and all of our medalists from this past weekend. We would also like to thank the staff at Palmetto Dunes Resort for hosting us this weekend and their amazing hospitality!
