Coastal Carolina Classic at the Hackler Course at Coastal
Bell National
Garland Gould (Raleigh, NC 2024), the 2021 Prep Order of Merit Champion, sat a shot off the overnight leader Macy Johnson (Salem, VA 2024) as she teed off on the par-five first hole. Johnson extended that lead on the first hole making birdie as she did on Saturday. It wasn’t until the back-nine that Gould turned up the heat and applied some pressure to the Salem, VA native. Unlike Gould, Johnson could not drop a birdie coming home in 39 (+3). Gould’s back-to-back birdies on the par-three fifteenth and par-five sixteenth proved to be enough to jump Grayson Bonner (Mount Pleasant, SC 2024) and Macy by one. Gould’s win at the Hack came in just her second-ever Bell National start.
Futures National
For the second straight week, the Futures National winner did not start the final round with the lead. Hallie Wilson (Winston-Salem, NC 2027) joins the list of 2027 PKBGT members to earn gold in their first season at the National level. Peyton O’Brien (Clemson, SC 2024) held the overnight lead after her round of 75 (+3) on Saturday. O’Brien did not fare as well on Sunday in the hefty wind gusts and fell to fourth after thirty-six holes. Kitson O’Neil (Pinehurst, NC 2023) had the chance to win outright on the eighteenth, but she saw her par putt slide just beyond the outer edge resulting in a two-way tie with Wilson after thirty-six holes. O’Neil and Wilson stepped up to the tenth tee for the playoff, with both player’s approach shots just missing the putting surface. Wilson made her par putt to claim the title.
