Inside the Field: 2020 PKBGT Invitational

We are just a week away from the most prestigious event on the year-long PKBGT circuit: The PKBGT Invitational contested at Bermuda Run Country Club in Advance, NC.

Played over Veteran’s Day weekend each year, the PKBGT Invitational is a 54-hole championship event played on both the east and west courses of Bermuda Run – with layouts of over 6200 yards at each venue.

While this event typically boasts a strong field, the 12th playing of the Invitational will feature its highest-ranked field yet, with 90% of the field ranking inside the top 1,000 on Junior Golf Scoreboard. Even more notable, twenty-six of these players rank inside the top 500 – a difficult feat to obtain.

With players from ten states – let’s take a look inside this year’s field of 62 at the 2020 PKBGT Invitational!

Highest Ranked Players

Entering the field as the highest-ranked player is Sara Im (Duluth, GA 2023). Im, the 2019 PKBGT Invitational runner-up, will tee off next weekend ranked the 48th highest player on the Junior Golf Scoreboard and 1st on the PKBGT Performance Index. Last season, Sara tabbed three runner-up finishes at the PKB Invitational, the Tournament of Champions, and the PKBGT Open Championship.

Just a stone’s throw behind Im on the Junior Golf Scoreboard is fellow Georgian Thienna Huynh (Lilburn, GA 2022). Thienna currently sits at 88th in the JGS (Junior Golf Scoreboard) and thirty-seventh in the PKBGT Performance Index. Thienna’s last time out on the PKB Girls Tour was at the Peach Tree Girls Classic, where she finished second.

Youngsters in the Field

They say age is just a number, which proves to be true for Ellen Yu (High Point, NC 2026) and Gracie Song (Waxhaw, NC 2026), who enters the field at just 13 years old. This will be Yu’s second time in the field and Song’s first. Last season, Gracie captured PKBGT titles in all three National Divisions, including the Bell Precision Girls Championship at Bryan Park.

In addition to Yu and Song, the field features six from the class of 2025, seven from 2024, sixteen from the class of 2023, eighteen from 2022, and thirteen from the graduating class of 2021.
