Weekend Review (July 15-28)
The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour hosted events numerous events since we last caught up including two regional events in the Middle Atlantic, the series finale in Central Florida and an event in the North Carolina, Kentucky and Delaware Valley Series.
Hillendale Hills, That’s Where I Want to Be!
The PKBGT, in partnership with the Middle Atlantic PGA Section, went back to the site of the first-ever PKBGT National event ever held in the DMV, Hillendale Country Club, in Phoenix, MD.
Josephine Nguyen (Springfield, VA 2024) took home medalist honors in the Prep field after her round of 76 (+3), including three birdies on her card. This was Nguyen’s first PKBGT title of the 2020 year. Madison Lehr (Mechanicsville, VA 2024) won silver in a scorecard playoff thanks to a birdie on the final hole. Lehr carded three birdies on her back-nine, including back-to-back birds on 17 and 18.
Two were tied in the Futures division after their final putts dropped on the eighteenth hole. Madison Yom (Burke, VA 2024) and Karlie Zamora (Linthicum, MD 2021) both shot rounds of 83 (+10) at Hillendale Country Club. Zamora’s par on the problematic eighteenth proved to be enough for Zamora to claim the title in the scorecard playoff. Karlie recorded one birdie on her round on the seventeenth hole.
The Discovery Division came down to the final three holes to crown the victor just before seven local time. Sydney Neou (Leesburg, VA 2027) shot an even-par round of 37, including two birdies and six pars on the day. Taking silver in the scorecard playoff was Emma Blue Sinclair (Dunkirk, MD 2027), thanks to a par on the eighth hole.
NC Series Plagued by the Storm
The NC Series continued play at the golf capital of the Carolina’s at Pinehurst #3. The NC Series, plagued by pop-up weather storms, did the same to the one-day event with just the Prep and Discovery completing their full round.
Tyler Spriggs (Cary, NC 2023) took medalist honors in the Prep division after a round of 72 (+2). Sprigg’s tumultuous round included four birdies and an eagle on the eighteenth hole! The Cary, NC native won by two shots over Emerson Dever (Durham, NC 2025), Shea Smith (Charlotte, NC 2022), and Justine Pennycooke (Cary, NC 2023).
The Futures division, forced to end their rounds after nine holes due to weather, saw two tied at 34 (+2) through nine-holes. Caroline Gilreath (Roanoke, VA 2023) lost in the scorecard playoff to Kate Dann (Charlotte, NC 2023), who birdied the ninth hole. Mackenzie Crossman (Pittsboro, NC 2024) rounded out the top three with a round of 35 (+3).
The best of the Carolina’s once again tied in the Discovery division at Pinehurst #3. Jenna Kim (Raleigh, NC 2027) and Riley Grimm (Pinehurst, NC 2028) finished their rounds right as the pop-up shower began to surround the historic golf village. Both Kim and Grimm birdied two holes, with Grimm taking home the medalist honors in the scorecard playoff.
Historic End to the CFL Series
In the Prep Division, Megan Griggs (Ocala, FL 2023) led wire-to-wire to claim the spoils of victory of the two-day championship. Griggs scored two birdies on her final round en route to a two-stroke victory. This was Megan’s first tournament that she played in the CFL Series. Grigg’s only other start occurred just days after celebrating the new year at the Disney Girls Classic, where she placed fourth in the Prep Preview Division. Abigail Fernandez (Windermere, FL 2023), winner of three CFL Regional Events finished runner-up at Alaqua.
In the Futures Division, Katie Yang (Orlando, FL 2025) dominated shooting 74 / 74 = 148 (+4) to capture the title by an astounding seventeen shots! Yang birdied five of her thirty-six holes over two days of play at Alaqua Country Club. Yang’s victory is her maiden one on the PKB Girls Tour. Finishing runner-up was Mara King (Longwood, FL 2025), who took first in the series opener at Mayfair Country Club back on March 7th.
In the Discovery Division, Karolyna Adams (Saint Cloud, FL 2026) shot a great two day total of 73 (+1). Adams shot a flawless round of even-par on the final day of play with three birdies on the card. Karolyna won three of the five regional series and finished in the top three in the other two events. Finishing runner-up was Da’Mya Aubrey (Orlando, FL 2026) at (+18).
No Tangle Here
The Delaware Valley series, in partnership with Women Golfers Give Back, continued its schedule at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club.
Kayla Malleto (Sinking Springs, PA 2024) snagged the Prep title after posting a round of 77 (+5) with three birdies on her front-nine. The Sinking Springs, PA native won by a slim margin of a single shot over Riley Quartermain (Bryn Mawr, PA 2021). The eighteenth hole proved to be the difference between the two as Maletto bested Riley with a bogey.
In the Futures division, Avery McCreary (Wilmington, DE 2025) captured her second Delaware Valley title of the season after posting a round of 77 (+5). Avery recorded one birdie on her round to win by two shots over Jordyn Cline (Hillsdale, NY 2022). Rounding out the top three was Kate Roberts (Phoenixville, PA 2025).
Eva Wang (Hockessin, DE 2029) ran away in the Discovery division, taking the title by four shots over the nearest competitor. Wang carded one birdie en route to a (+4) round of 40. Bryn Krosse (York, PA 2030) and Guilia Weisser (Reading, PA 2027) tied for second with Bryn taking home silver in the scorecard playoff.
In the Prep division, Paige Giovenco (Sellersburg, IN 2025) claimed gold in a very small field with her round of 82 (+10) at Nevel Meade Golf Club in Prospect, KY. Giovenco finished sixth in her first PKB Girls Tour event of the 2020 year back in January at the Disney Girls Classic.
Caitlin Rogers (Lexington, KY 2025) ran away with the title in the Futures division thanks to her round of 78 (+6) winning the event by fourteen shots. Rogers carded five birdies on the day including three in a row on holes seven, eight, and nine. Rounding out the top three was Erin Johnson (Cincinnati, OH 2022) and Lily Tribble (Union, KY 2025).
Emerson Bowling (Frankfurt, KY 2028) claimed gold in the Discovery division in the three-person field. Finishing runner-up was Penelope Harris (Louisville, KY 2027).
Where is My Pen?
The PKBGT Middle Atlantic Series, in partnership with the Middle Atlantic PGA Section, returned to action at Pendleton Golf Club in Ruther Glen, VA.
Katie Park (Fairfax, VA 2022) claimed the spoils of victory in the Prep division by a stroke after posting a round of 74 (+2). Park recorded three birdies and an eagle on the par-four fourth hole! Finishing runner-up was Hayleigh McPeak (Chesterfield, VA 2023), who shot 75 (+3).
Yvette O’Brien (Greenwich, CT 2025), winner of the Mid Atlantic Series opener at Lake Chesdin Golf Club, eagled the first hole at Pendleton en route to a (+5) round of 77 to claim her second victory of the season. The Greenwich, CT native won by three shots. Finishing runner-up was Miranda Husband-Wood (Chesapeake, VA 2023) with a round of 80 (+8).
Tia Macdonald (Midlothian, VA 2027) and Zoe Cusack (Potomac, MD 2026) and Sophia Dechant (Ashburn, VA 2026) concluded their rounds tied atop the leaderboard after rounds of 37 (+1). Macdonald won first place in a scorecard playoff with a birdie on the ninth hole.
