On Sunday, March 27, the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour played the final round of the 2022 PKBGT Spring Invitational at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, VA.

The breeze carried the aroma of spring as players took to the practice range Sunday morning. A nipping chill, more robust than the beginning of the first round, cut through the air. Tee times for the final round of the 2022 PKBGT Spring Invitational were set to commence at 11:30 a.m. and players arrived at the practice facilities just after the sun rose over the surrounding mountains of Charlottesville, VA.

Following the first round of play at the home course of the University of Virginia Women’s Golf team, the 5th Annual Spring Invitational was open for the taking. Going into Round 2 Kate Barber, Grace Lu, Claire Lu, Katherine Brictson, and Saia Rampersaud all shared the lead at just three over par.

The girls took to the course, beaming rays of sunshine livening the aesthetic course and setting the perfect scene for the final round of the 2022 Spring Invitational. Yes, indeed, Day Two at the iconic Birdwood Golf Course came with the quintessential conditions to catch Spring Fever.

At the end of the day, one player stood alone atop the leaderboard as champion of the 5th Annual PKBGT Spring Invitational.

Bell National

Strutting with swag for the second day in a row, Kate held on to the lead with another strong performance in the final round to win the 2022 PKBGT Spring Invitational. Kate Barber (Savannah, GA 2022) took home the championship bowl in the 50 player Bell National field with a two-day score of 75, 71 = 146 (+2). Though Barber hit some bumps along the road, she turned her swag on with an event record of seven birdies including three on her bogey free back nine.

Just two strokes behind Barber, finishing runner up with a two-day score of 75, 73 = 148 (+4) was Grace Lu (Edison, NJ 2022). Lu had a strong, bogey-free front nine, making the turn still in the running for the lead before Barber pulled away on the back.

Sarah Lydic (Ocean View, DE 2024) had a strong final-round performance with an even-par 72 on the day to secure third place. Her two-day total of 77, 72 = 149 (+5) was capped off with near bogey-free back-nine of 33.

Making a run on Day Two with a final round low score of 71 was Macy Pate (Winston-Salem, NC 2024). Pate was a birdie machine on the back nine, sinking four. Her two-day total of 80, 71 = 151 (+7) boosted her into a tie for fourth place along with Claire Lu (Edison, NJ 2024). Claire, paired with her sister Grace and Katherine Brictson in the final group, carded a steady round consisting of 16 pars, to have a two-day total of 75, 76 = 151 (+7).

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by the Triad Youth Golf Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina, the tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2022 season will feature over 138 tournaments in 12+ states and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
