Recap: Imperial Girls Classic

Greenville, SC-The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour concluded play at the soggy Imperial Girls Classic in Greenville, South Carolina, at Green Valley Country Club. The final PKBGT Invitational automatic bid was up for grabs in the packed Bell National field. A surprise come from behind victory occurred in the first Prep Preview Series event of the wraparound calender.

Bell National

The overnight leader, Regina Plascencia Celis (Bluffton, SC 2022), got it done on another soggy morning in the Upstate following her opening round 74 (+2) with a one-over round of 73 on Sunday. The G2 Academy student put together quite a round, including four birdies, including back-to-back scores in the blue on the thirteenth and fourteenth holes. Plascencia Celis has played well south of our tour’s HQ, including a second at the weather-shortened Rocket Tour Championship last season and a T3 at the Peachtree Classic at Stone Mountain Golf Club but never reached pay dirt till yesterday. With her victory, Regina moves into the #1 spot on the Bell Order of Merit rankings by 1.50 points over Yedam Lee (Lawrenceville, GA 2021), the winner of our first two events 20-’21 season.

1. Regina Plascencia Celis (Bluffton, SC 2022) / 74 / 73 = 147 (+3)

2. Elizabeth Rudisill (Charlotte, NC 2025) / 77 / 72 = 149 (+5)

3. Sarah Boteler (Greenville, SC 2021) / 80 / 73 = 153 (+9)*

4. Nicole Nash (Charlotte, NC 2023) / 77 / 76 = 153 (+9)

Prep Preview

Madison Messimer (Myrtle Beach, SC 2025) lurked four shots off the leader Macy Johnson (Salem, VA 2023) after day one shooting 84 (+12) on a rainy Saturday. With slightly better weather on Sunday morning, the reigning Futures National Order of Merit titleholder fell right back into her old ways, shooting the Prep low round of the tournament 77 (+5) to end the event in a three-way tie with Caroline Johnson (Mooresville, NC 2023) and Ella Drew Dodd (Mount Pleasant, SC 2022). Messimer finished the other two contenders off in two playoff holes to capture her first Prep Preview event and ninth PKBGT title overall.

T1. Madison Messimer (Myrtle Beach, SC 2025) / 84 / 77 = 161 (+17)^

T1. Caroline Johnson (Mooresville, NC 2023) / 83 / 78 = 161 (+17)*

The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour returns to action on September 28 for the PKBGT Invitational at Bermuda Run.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The Tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the Tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace. The 2020 season will feature over 110 tournaments in 9 states on the East Coast, and with over 1,000 members, the PKBGT is the largest girl’s only Tour in the country.  Learn more about the PKBGT at http://www.pkbgt.org/.
