Update: River Landing Girls Classic

Wallace, NC- The Peggy Kirk Bell Girls’ Golf Tour returned to River Landing Golf Club for the annual River Landing Girls Classic this weekend. River Landing, host site of the River Landing Women’s Collegiate and #1 coastal golf course in the state of North Carolina, will crown the next Bell and Futures National Champions of the 2021 season. Five states were represented in the field. 

 

Bell National

Sahana Mantha (Charlotte, NC 2025) finds herself in the final pairing on Sunday at the River Landing Classic. Sahana fired an opening-round 72 (E) to hold a two-shot overnight lead. Mantha is in prime form to capture her first-ever National Series event. Sahana carded three birdies on both nines.

Heather Appelson (Wake Forest, NC 2023), will join Mantha in the final group alongside the Colonial Classic @ Williamsburg National Runner-Up, Victoria Matthews (Great Falls, VA 2023), who both shot rounds of 74 (+2) and 75 (+3) respectively.

Lurking behind Mantha, Appelson, and Matthews is D’yan Robinson (Richmond, VA 2022) at (+6). Robinson finished Top-8 at the Colonial Classic @ Williamsburg National (Jamestown) earlier this fall.

Futures National

Lily Rowe (Raleigh, NC 2022) heads into the final round as the overnight leader after an outstanding round of even-par (E). Rowe finished Top-12 this fall at the inaugural Cutter Creek Classic. Rowe’s round today included two birdies and an Eagle on the challenging par-four fifteenth  Hole. She went out in 38 and home in 34.

Tied at Four shots behind Rowe are Ashnoor Kaur (Roanoke, VA 2027), a dominant Discovery player that has now moved up to Futures, and Ona Lukes (Chapel Hill, NC 2023). Kaur carded 2 birdies this round on the par-four’s seven and thirteen.

Closely behind Rowe, Kaur, and Lukes, a dominant young golfer, Jenna Kim (Raleigh, NC 2027) carded a round of 77 (+5) which included 2 birdies. Kim took first at the Cutter Creek Girls Classic earlier this fall.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
