Update: Cape Fear Classic at the Country Club of Landfall

Wilmington, NCOn Saturday, February,22nd the Peggy Kirk Bell Girl’s Golf Tour began play at the Cape Fear Classic at the Country Club of Landfall, the home course of the UNCW Women’s golf team. The first round was delayed due to frost on the coastal golf course that welcomed Bell National and Futures National participants to the southern coast of North Carolina.

Bell National

Leading the Bell National field is Ava Lucas (Raleigh, NC 2021), after firing a stellar round of 71 (-1). The Raleigh native carded four birdies in her opening round and holds a two-stroke lead heading into the final round. Ava was the lone competitor to shoot a round under par on Saturday.

Prep Preview

Leading the Futures National field is Kathryn Ha (Roanoke, VA 2025) after a steady even-par round of seventy-two (E). Han faltered on her seventh and eighth hole before recovering on the ninth with a birdie to finish the front at (+1). The Roanoke native carded eight pars and one birdie on the back. Ha holds a nine stoke overnight lead heading into tomorrow’s final round.

About the PKBGT

Founded in 2007 by Girls Golf of America, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization, as a local girls’ golf tour in the Triad region of North Carolina.  The tour began as a simple concept: create more effective competitive playing opportunities for girls. By utilizing innovative yardage-based divisions instead of the traditional age-based format, the tour focused on developing tournament experience at the player’s pace.
